Trauma Counseling Minneapolis, MN

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a powerful treatment for trauma counseling in Minneapolis. Using a mindfulness-based approach, Brainspotting  works by identifying, processing and releasing stored neurophysiological pain and trauma which can cause a variety of symptoms when left untreated. Your emotional symptoms from storing pain and trauma can accumulate when stored in "trauma capsules" within the deep regions of your brain.  This specific technique accesses what we call a brain spot through eye positioning that correlates with these capsules where our negative energy is stored. During Brainspotting, we can access these deeper places much more quickly and effectively than traditional talk therapy.

How Does Brainspotting Work?

Brainspotting is a therapy approach designed to help you access, process, and overcome trauma, negative emotions, and pain. When talking about a painful or traumatic memory, your eyes will look at a certain point when access that memory.  This helps me guide you during our brainspotting session. During brainspotting, I will help you position your eyes in ways that enable you to target sources of negative emotion. With the aid of a pointer, we will slowly guide your eyes across their field of vision to find appropriate “brainspots,” with a brainspot being an eye position that activates a traumatic memory or painful emotion.

Once we've accessed a brainspot, we work together to walk you through your memories to reprocess negative events and retrain emotional reactions.
